Weekend Update August 14

Are you loving this warm August weather?  I hope so!  It was great to see so many of you picking up yearbooks.  I miss the children so very much!!!! The 2020 – 2021 school year will be interesting and will bring new learning experiences for all students. Welcome to our new families! We are so excited to have you join our amazing school community.  While this is not the way we anticipated opening this school year, the entire Stonehedge staff will be prepared and will make the 2020-2021 school year the best that it can be for your children!

There are still many questions about the new year, here are some updates:

Class lists

Over the next few weeks, we will be working on class lists and assigning rooms. There will be no more than 14 students. Students will not be moving to different classes. Special Area Teachers will rotate into classrooms. Your child’s teacher assignment will be sent home along with other information about the start of the school year in the weeks to come.

Supply Lists

Updated supply lists will be posted on the website the week of August 17th. Students will not be using lockers and cubbies to start the school year so students will be bringing their backpacks with them into their classroom.

Reopening Plan & Masks

A reminder that a copy of the District School Reopening Plan is available on the District site outlining a range of topics including some very specific information tied to health & safety. One area that I want to highlight and make sure that everyone understands is the expectation around masks. Students and staff will be expected to wear their masks throughout the day with the exception of brief teacher-guided breaks.  Please practice wearing masks at home to get students used to it.

Lunch

If possible, please send your child to school with a lunch for the first few weeks of school to assist with the reopening of school and our new systems.

District Q&A

Please join us online on Wednesday, August 19 OR Thursday, August 20 at 6:00 p.m. for a detailed presentation by West Genesee Central School District Personnel and the Superintendent of Schools, David C. Bills, about the reopening of schools. The WGCSD would like to share the most updated details with parents and guardians. When you sign up there will be a link to submit questions. One of our own 3rd-grade students, Savannah (Savvy) was diagnosed on November 17, 2017 with Wilms Tumor on her right kidney. After surgery to remove the 6lb mass and her right kidney, 6 days of radiation and 7 months of chemo followed, which ended in July of 2018. Savannah continued follow-ups and scans and remained cancer-free for 18 months! On January 24, 2020, Savannah was taken to Upstate ER with a swollen abdomen. The family was told that night that her Wilms Tumor had regenerated on her right side and was 20cm long (8ish in). The tumor is currently too large to operate on, so she will need to do chemotherapy in order to shrink the tumor so surgery will be possible. Friends and family have organized a benefit and other opportunities for people to join the fight.  For more information, please contact Dawn Frontuto at 315-447-8263
