Let's Keep Our Kids Safe Online
The Coordinator of Instructional Technology, Rob Leo, recently shared a great article on the how-tos of keeping our students safe online. There are many positive, productive and enjoyable options for everyone while using electronic devices and the internet, but unfortunately, at times can lead to unfortunate circumstances. Please take some time to review this article,  Parents' Ulitmate Guide Parental Controls "Parents' Ulitmate Guide to Parental Controls," to ensure the safety and well-being of your child while they are using the internet at home.

Kindergarten Registration Begins in December
Kindergarten Registration for the 2022-2023 school year opened virtually on December 1, 2021, and will go until March 31, 2022. This will allow our families to register their children from the comfort of their home or office. Please click here to start the Virtual Registration process. This will schedule a telemeeting with you.

When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:
  • proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)
  • proof of immunizations
  • proof of age
A physical examination is also required and a dental certificate is requested for entry into kindergarten. These examinations should be done up to one year prior to the first day of school. Children who enter kindergarten this fall must be five years of age on or before December 1, 2022.

Positivity Project:
Optimism
When we return from Holiday Recess, the character strength on which we are focusing is Hope/Optimism.  According to the Positivity Project (posproject.org), hope and optimism represent a state of hopefulness and confidence about the future, both short and long term. People with this strength are future oriented, have a positive vision of what the future holds and maintain confidence that they will get there. To learn more about hope and optimism, click here. Students are really enjoying learning about all of the character strengths. We hear them use the terms and make connections throughout the day.

 PTA:
PTA Meeting
The next general PTA meeting will be held on Monday, January 10 at 6:30 pm in the Stonehedge Library.  Representatives from Kindergarten and 1st Grade will be there to talk about what is happening in their classrooms.

Around School:

Students were greeted with beautiful music by staff members:
Guitar: Mr. Barrigar, Piano: Mrs. DeMartini, Violins: Mrs. Mercer, Mr. Reardon, Bass: Mr. Mercado

Ms. Ratcliff found her favorite silly Christmas sweater.
Mrs. Colburn's 1st Grade Class donned their silly (yet adorable) Christmas sweaters.
Silly sweaters in Mrs. Kermes's 3rd Grade Class.
Mrs. Bailey's 3rd Grade Class wearing their silly sweaters.
Mrs. Gauzza's Kindergarten Class wearing their silly Christmas sweaters.
Mrs. Prosser's 2nd Grade Class decorated silly sweater cookies.

Some 1st grade classes read “Night Tree” and made their own ornaments out of Cheerios. Then they sang carols and put their ornaments our own Night Tree in the “forest” behind Stonehedge. Now we wait to see if the animals come to feast!

Mrs. Cunninghams's 1st Grade Class learned about how different cultures and countries celebrate the holidays.  Mrs. Cunningham is dressed up like St. Lucia (Saint Lucy). In Sweden they celebrate St,Lucia Day on Dec. 13th.  The oldest girl in the family wears a white gown and a wreath of candles on her head to light the way on the darkest day of the year.  She gets up early to make saffron rolls and coffee for her family.

Positivity Project:
Knowing my words and actions affect others
This week students learned about knowing how our words and actions affect others. Everything you do and say can affect people in a positive or negative way. Students from Mrs. Lizzi's 2nd Grade Class read to the school some positive words they say to others.

Next week's Positivity Trait is self-control, something many of us struggle with at this time of year! Self-control means you have the ability to control your emotions and behaviors. You think before you act.  People with this strength are more disciplined and have the ability to wait and think through things before acting. To read more about this strength, click here.

Weekend Update December 3rd

It's been an exciting week at Stonehedge. Students are continuing to dig deeper in our curriculum.  Thank you to all of the K families who joined our PTA Kindergarten Night on Thursday.  Check out the pictures below!

Remember, MONDAY, Dec 6 starts our new dismissal procedures. Many students have new buses.  Your patience will be greatly appreciated. Please expect some delays until the routes become predictable.  Car pick up will change a little bit. Students in grades 2-4 will now be picked up in the front loop NOT around the back of the building.  We will begin car dismissal at 3:10.  Please do not come until 3:05.  To assist our morning drop off, a few suggestions:
  • Have your children masked, zipped, and bookbag in hands as you pull up to the drop off spot.
  • We have been working on independence, parents PLEASE remain in your vehicle.  Children, with the help of a staff member, will be able to exit the car.
  • DO NOT pull around another car to exit the line (unless a staff member directs you)
  • The drop off line should be continuously moving in one fluid line
Thank you for helping us make arrival and dismissal flow smoothly, efficiently and safely for all!

West Genesee Transportation Implementation

An additional reminder letter about how the changes will affect Stonehedge went home with your child this week.

Label Those Clothes!
This is the time of year when students tend to lose their boots, snow pants, gloves, etc. Please take a few minutes to clearly label your child's belongings. You will be glad that you did! Also, if you have any gently used snow pants, boots or gloves you'd like to donate to the school, we'd love to take them off of your hands!

Positivity Project:

Kindness
This week we focused on the character strength of kindness. Kind people think about the needs and feelings of other people, and then act to help those people. Kind people are selfless. For more about kindness, click here. Speaking of kindness, thank you to everyone that donated to the PTA Giving Tree so far!  We are so fortunate to live in such a generous community!

We are still collecting items for Stonehedge families in need and the Samaritan Center.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades: Cash or Target gift cards
3rd grade:  Toiletries (ie; soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, lip balm)
4th grade: Non-perishable food items

This year's drive is running through Friday, December 17.

Next week's character trait will be Knowing My Actions and Words Affect Others.
