Weekend Update January 31, 2020

Community Oriented Drug Education (CODE) Assembly
Officer Brand, of the Camillus Police Department, visited Stonehedge-Blue for our third CODE assembly of the year on Thursday.  She spoke on different topics at each grade level.

Kindergarten – The focus for this presentation was on self esteem and how each one of them is special. The importance of reporting certain situations to trusted adults was discussed.

First Grade – The theme of the assembly was celebrating our differences.  Accepting ourselves as we are, and others as they are, is important.

Second Grade – The theme of the presentation was learning about problem solving skills.  Officer Brand demonstrated a conflict and how to properly resolve it by role playing a situation involving a conflict over a pizza.

Bus Expectations
Reviewing behavioral expectations for while at school and on the bus is never a bad idea.  The students will be getting a refresher on these expectations while in the classroom but it would be helpful if you could also review the bus expectations while at home.  We talk about how it is important to "Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be Safe."

Be Respectful:

  • Listen to and follow the bus driver’s directions at all times.
  • Greet the driver when getting on the bus.
  • Be kind to everyone around you.
  • Use a level 2 voice.

Be Responsible:

  • When an adult is talking to the children and bus driver, it is important to listen and respond.
  • Sit in your assigned seat at all times (even after others have gotten off the bus).
  • Watch for your stop.
  • Leave the bus with all of your belongings.

Be Safe:

  • Stay seated at all times, until the bus is at your stop.
  • Keep your hands and feet in your seat and out of the aisle.
  • Remember to use your voice level 2, unless the bus driver or adult is talking and then use a level 0 voice
  • Leave food, drink, and electronics in your backpack during your bus ride.
  • Follow directions given by the adults.

Positivity Project
The Positivity Project focus trait for this week is supporting others when they struggle.  Supporting others while they go through tough times is a critical piece of being human. There is a Chinese saying that sums this up: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”  We sure do take good care of each other here at Stonehedge.

Weekend Update January 10th

I hope everyone had a great first week back.  It can be difficult for us to get back into the swing of a daily routine.  However, the students and staff of Stonehedge made it look pretty easy!  It has been another great week. Special thank you to our PTA for providing popcorn for our Kindergarten students for Kindergarten Spirit Day.

P2 Assembly
We had an awesome P2 assembly today.  All students are AMAZING audience members.  I am so impressed at how well they listen to the speaker, participate in our song, and maintain self-control.  We focused on the trait of Self-Control.  Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Prosser's second graders acted out two different skits to review what self-control looks like in both the hallway and in the classroom.  Kudos to the students in those classrooms for your acting skills!
