Twas the weekend before school

Twas the weekend before classes, when all through the school
all the teachers are working, not taking a break;
The decorations were hung by the classroom doors with care,
In hopes that smiling children soon would be there;

New Staff Members:
Please join me in welcoming our new staff members.  Peter Knowlton, Sheena Muratore, and Sue Tschernjawski

Drop-off Procedures:
Please help us keep things running smooth during drop off!  You need to park in a parking spot, if you are going to get out of your car with your child.  You can not stop and park your car in the drop off line because this causes a huge back up with other cars and buses.  Thank you in advance for your support in keeping everyone moving along

Parent Handbook:
Please be sure to take some time to visit Stonehedge's webpage to view the updated Stonehedge Parent Handbook. Here you will be able to find all procedures, protocols, expectations and any other pertinent information regarding Stonehedge Elementary. Printed copies are available by request.

Please join the PTA:
Please consider joining the PTA this year. We have a very active PTA that does many wonderful things for our school. Membership is $6.00 per year. The PTA will have a membership table set up on Curriculum Night (along with a committee sign up table - we always need volunteers!) or you can join online here.

Curriculum Night:
Please join us Thursday, September 12 to discuss curriculum.  It is most beneficial if this night is for adults only.  Please make every attempt to get supervision for children at home.

Staggered Schedule:
Kindergarten & 1st grade 6:00 - 6:30 pm
2nd grade & 3rd grade 6:30 - 7:00 pm
4th grade & 5th grade 7:00 - 7:30 pm

Signing-in at Stonehedge:
Please remember that visitors need to identify themselves before being allowed to enter the building. We installed a system called Raptor that requires all visitors to submit their driver’s license to be scanned before receiving an identification sticker to wear while in the school. Parents will be able to leave items for their child without entering the school.  We appreciate your cooperation and willingness to help us continually improve our safety procedures.

Save the Date:
Please mark your calendars to come out to meet and welcome our new Superintendent Mr. David Bills.

It's the Middle of August

Some of the best memories are made in flip-flops!

I hope you and yours have made some glorious memories this summer.  I can not believe how fast August is flying by.  The Stonehedge staff is working hard preparing the entire building for the start of the 2019-2020 school year. The second half of the month is a perfect time to start building healthy routines to prepare for September.  At my house, we start going to bed and getting up at "school times."  Don't worry we have a few weeks left to read some new books, visit the public library, and spend some extra time talking with one another. Last weekend, I had a proud mama moment which reminded me how important summer can be for our learning. My daughter and I were driving to camp with my 5 year old nephew.  While we were driving my daughter started playing "A,B, C--I Spy" with my nephew.  She told him to find something on our drive that started with an A and then she found a B object and so on.  I was so proud of my little teacher in training. My nephew was so excited to talk about his understanding of our language.  It reminded me how important it is to use every minute to talk about learning with our kiddos.  Summer is a great time to make learning easy, breezy and fun.  And, August is a great time to start preparing for the start of the year.
