Important Information:

Traffic Problems

It has been brought to our attention by the Camillus Police Department and the Stonehedge Community that our afternoon car dismissal is causing significant issues including standstill traffic, blocking of emergency vehicle passages and overall traffic congestion. In order to keep dismissal times and procedures consistent for our students, we ask that parents and family members adhere to the following staggered dismissal schedule:
Car Dismissal/self transportation will be staggered by car tags as follows:
#1-50 at 3:05pm
#51-100 at 3:10pm
#100 and above at 3:15pm
We continue to encourage families to use our district’s transportation. Please note that the bus fleet is solely dedicated to Stonehedge students. If you’d like to take advantage of bussing, please contact the main office at (315) 487-4633.

Kindergarten Registration Begins in December

Kindergarten Registration for the 2022-2023 school year opened virtually on December 1, 2021, and will go until March 31, 2022. This will allow our families to register their children from the comfort of their home or office. Please click here to start the Virtual Registration process. This will schedule a telemeeting with you.

When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:

• proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)

• proof of immunizations

• proof of age

A physical examination is also required and a dental certificate is requested for entry into kindergarten. These examinations should be done up to one year prior to the first day of school. Children who enter kindergarten this fall must be five years of age on or before December 1, 2022.

Positivity Project:

This week’s character strength is Cheering others’ success. This means that when other people succeed you are happy for them and cheer them on.  Being happy for other people when they succeed isn’t always everyone’s initial reaction. Often, it’s easy to become jealous or envious of others’ victories.  You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits.  When we all help one another, everybody wins.  Find out more about Cheering others’ success by clicking here.

Founders Day Meeting

You are welcome to the PTA Founders Day meeting on Tuesday, February 1st at 6:30 pm in the Library.  Founders Day is celebrated each year in February to honor the founding leaders of the New York State PTA.

Souper Bowl Food Drive

Our PTA is sponsoring a food drive with a Super Bowl theme.  More details will be coming next week.

Around School:

WGCSD Chess Tournament

On one of the coldest days of the year, students from all around the WG District came to compete in the West Genesee Chess Club Winter Tournament.  We were thrilled to hold this event IN-PERSON for the first time since the club was reformed 3 years ago.  Students from Stonehedge, Easthill, WGMS, and WGHS all came and played in 5 total rounds of classical chess.  Congratulations to all who participated!

Positivity Project:

Supporting Others When They Struggle

Next week we are learning about supporting others when they struggle. According to the Positivity Project, supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence. Talking through a problem is a common way to help a person who is going through a tough time. Please talk with your children this week about how they can help others who may be struggling.

Gertrude Hawk Fundraiser
Attention: This is your sweet tooth calling!  Make sure to look through your Gertrude Hawk Fundraising Envelope.  It came home with your student this week.  For your convenience, online ordering is available as well.  Items ordered online before February 18th will be delivered to Stonehedge at no charge.  All order forms and payments in full are due back to Stonehedge by February 10th.  Sale proceeds will fund PTA events.

Yearbook Information

It's time to order your child's yearbook! The yearbook starts at $14.00 and can be purchased online at ybpay.lifetouch.com.  The school ID code is 8399622 .  Don’t let your child’s memories fade away! The deadline is March 27th.

Donations Needed

The Stonehedge Health Office is in need of boys pants sizes 8,10 and 12.  Pants without zippers are preferred.  They will also accept any donations of gently used children's sneakers in any size.

This month our third graders started a new unit on light and sound.

Students spent some indoor recess on chess. Chess club gets bigger, better, and sharper every week!

See What Is Happening In Mrs. Dougher's Art Class

Mrs. Gauzza's Kindergargen Class is learning about creating lines, texture and shapes to create polar bears in Mrs. Dougher's Art Class. They learned about Canadian artist, Ted Harrison. They used his artwork as inspiration to create their own landscape.

Mrs. Gesser's 4th Grade Class is learning about one of the 7 elements of art:  VALUE.

-Create a blue monochromatic value scale for the background with tempera paint

-Use line to create branches and birds

-Create texture using colored pencil techniques

-Add splatter paint/glitter glue to the background for emphasis

Mrs. Hesler and Mrs. Leonardis'  1st Grade Classes are learning about color and line to paint the background with tempera paint.  They learned about shape and form to draw 3D looking iceburgs.  They used line and shape to draw sections of the penguins body.  They are learning about multimedia and collage so they can safely cut and glue all the parts of their penguins to their background.  Check out their cool added embellishments!
