Wednesday August 5, 2020 Update

Have you and our children been enjoying this hot, beautiful summer? I certainly enjoyed July with my family.  We spent a lot of time at camp especially since our Outer Banks Trip was cancelled. I've also been busy helping my son prepare to go to college later this month.  I am thankful many of your sons and daughters will be coming back to school in the fall, as I know it will help me when I miss my own son. The office staff and I have returned to the building. The office is now open from 8:00 to 3:00 daily.

Reopening Plan

Have you seen the West Genesee plan for reopening?  If you have not, please visit the West Genesee homepage where you will find information regarding reopening. In the plan, elementary parents have the option of selecting in-person or remote learning for K-4 students.  The elementary (K-4) school day will run from 9:00 - 2:30.

A questionnaire was sent to all parents on Monday. You should log into schooltool to choose either remote or in-person and transportation needs. You will find further instructions on submitting the survey at the top of the Schooltool page. Parents are asked to complete the survey no later than August 10, 2020. Thank you!

Mask Policy

I have had several questions asking about clarifying the expectations around masks at school. Masks are required.  Students/Staff will maintain a 6ft social distancing whenever possible. We will allow mask breaks.  Masks will be worn more often than not, and adults will give mask breaks at their discretion.

Online Learning

I have also been asked about what Online Learning will look like. Online learning will have the same structure base as the last few months of school. Teachers will be utilizing the GoogleClassroom or Sites platform to carry out the instruction.

The online teaching/learning will be bolstered in comparison to what it was in the spring. There will be daily attendance and lessons and assignments to be completed, some of which will incorporate synchronous (live) teaching. The units that are currently being built will be organized so that they may be carried out in person or online, therefore ensuring all students are receiving the same curriculum and similar instruction in whichever modality they participate.

As per the day to day strategies and adjustments, the teacher might utilize and incorporate will be up to the teacher's discretion as he/she may use their professional judgment to differentiate instruction as they work through the process.

Yearbook

The long-awaited yearbooks are arriving next week. The PTA will be set up in the front circle for pickup. If you are unable to be available for your pick up time please contact Loryn Petrik at lorynpetrik@gmail.com to make other arrangements. If you haven’t purchased a yearbook and would like to we will have a few available. The cost will be $20.
