Updates from Stonehedge Elementary

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 7, 2021.  It is a full day 9:00-3:15.  (Car dismissal begins at 3:10).  Students will be required to wear masks and maintain a 3 foot distance inside the school.

On August 24, we welcomed all of our new students into Stonehedge with our Kindergarten Orientation and our New Student Orientation.  We are glad you’re here, and we look forward to an exciting new school year!

Thanks for joining us for Popsicles with the Principals It was a delightfully, delicious night! A special thank you and shout out to our fourth grade Student Ambassadors.  And, of course, thank you to our PTA who sponsored the event with the delicious popsicles.

Teachers

I would like to welcome Ms. Hannah Humphrey (Instructional Specialist), Ms. Colleen Murphy (Special Education) and Mr. Josh Herrick (Grade 3). We are very fortunate to have an amazing group of experienced professionals joining our staff at Stonehedge!  We are blessed to have several of our staff members returning from the remote setting last year to in-school this year:  Mrs. McCarthy, Mrs. Cooney, Mrs. Spinks, and Mrs. Kermes.

We have a few teachers who have changed to different positions within the building:  Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Goodnow have changed from grade 2 to grade 3. Mrs. Castaldo has changed from grade 3 to a grade 4 classroom.  Mrs. Storms has moved from grade 4 special education to regular education. Mrs. Carrington has returned to 2nd grade after having taught Kindergarten for two years.  Mrs. Erwin has moved from 1/2 Kindergarten at Split Rock back to Stonehedge at second grade.  We are excited for these adjustments and look forward to our new school year!

Riding a Bus?

If your child is riding a bus, parents must use the app called BusQuest to get up-to-date information.  On September 1, 2021, the app will be updated to provide you with a bus number, pick-up time, and drop-off time for your child for the upcoming school year. (More features will be added to the app as we progress.) If you do not have a mobile device you can create an account using a computer. The parent portal is called Trans-Sync. View this video on how to set up your account and Profile for BusQuest app and the Trans-Sync Portal.

Need a Car Tag?

If you plan to pick up your child on a regular basis (more than once a week), please call the Main Office for a car tag.  Last year's car tags are NOT valid. You must get an updated car tag by calling Stonehedge Main Office at 315-487-4633.

Arrival and Dismissal Updates

Due to the number of cars picking up our students, we have moved the Kindergarten children and their siblings to the side doors for drop-off and pick-up.  Students in grades 1-4 without Kindergarten siblings will be dropped-off and picked-up in the front loop. Drop-off starts at 9:00 AM and pick-up starts at 3:10 PM.

School Meals

Your child is welcome to bring lunch from home or have a school lunch each day. Menus and other important information is posted here on the district website and the Nutrislice App.  Meals do not have to be pre-ordered because we will take a daily lunch count in school.  Breakfast is optional and will be available upon students’ arrival each morning if they choose. School meals  are free for all students thanks to a federal grant for public schools (due to the pandemic).  Students will again be issued a four digit pin to use at lunch. Students in grades 1 and 3 will eat in their classrooms.  Students in grades K, 2 and 4 will eat in one of our cafeterias.

Curriculum Night

Our Curriculum Night  is being held VIRTUALLY on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.  Be on the lookout for log-in information from your child’s teacher on the first day of school!

Here is a one-page school calendar which shows the dates of attendance and school breaks for the 2021-22 school year, for your convenience!

Communications from West Genesee

Here are some helpful tips about our SchoolMessenger communication system:

  • To be sure that you are receiving all emails sent from the District/schools/teachers, please periodically check your spam/junk/promotions folder for emails with @westgenesee.org, then mark that they are not spam or junk!
  • To be sure that you are receiving text messages this year from WGCSD or your school(s), text a "Y" or "Yes" to 67587.
  • If you still have questions about receiving emails and/or text from WGCSD, please email your questions to publications@westgenesee.org.

I look forward to seeing all of you soon!
Amanda
