Weekend Update June 5, 2020

Recently Superintendent, David Bills, wrote: "West Genesee Schools remain committed to the important conversations of social awareness, acceptance, and celebration of uniqueness that is part of our being stronger together."  I understand this can be a difficult topic to explain to our youngest students. On Saturday morning, June 6 at 10:00, Sesame Street is hosting a Town Hall for parents and kids called Coming Together: Standing up to Racism.  According to the overview found in this link, "The show will talk to kids about racism, the recent nationwide protests, embracing diversity and being more empathetic and understanding."  This website has information about how to watch the Town Hall and how to submit questions for the discussion.

Distance Learning

We are starting our last full week of school.  Keep up the good work and we are almost to summer vacation Don't forget to visit the online learning portal for library, PE, Music, P2, and counseling activities.  I hope that this June Happiness Calendar from the Greater Good Science Center will give you some ideas to use with your family to continue to find connection and joy! If you didn't order a yearbook, but still would like one.  Please email me at asimmons@westgenesee.org

Report Cards

Student report cards will be available through SchoolTool at the end of June.  Next week I will send a reminder about how to access report cards.  However, if you are in need of a paper copy, please email me or your child's teacher with that request.   We have one more full week of learning ahead.  Stay motivated, and finish the school year strong!

 Student Belongings

Thank you to all of the families who came to pick up their child's belongings.  It was wonderful to see so many of you.  We still have about 100 bags and many items in the "lost and found." If you have not come in, please do so on Tuesday, June 9th between 9 AM and 1 PM.  For the remaining lost and found items, you can rest assured that we will do great community service by making a donation to the local Rescue Mission.
Are you missing any of your things?

P2 Trait of the Week Creativity.

Creative people are able to look at the world in original ways. They are open to new experiences and have an imaginative and independent thought process. They are able to generate lots of different ideas and have the capacity to go after certain ideas they’ve generated with energy and enthusiasm. Creativity is a process that takes courage. Anytime you’re putting your original ideas into the world, you risk being criticized or even ostracized.
