Weekend Update for May 27th

I hope everyone enjoys a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. It is an important time to reflect on Memorial Day with our children.  It was enacted to remember the service and sacrifice of men and women who died fighting for what they believed was right.   The day can serve as a reminder that there is much more that unites the American people than divides us.  Students will be back to school Wednesday, June 2 refreshed and ready for a great month of June.  And what a GREAT month June will be!  While COVID restrictions will limit the activities we typically do in June, we still have some fun things planned!  We'll have class picnic days, a book fair, and a special performance from DownBeat Percussion.

Next Week:
Monday, May 31, 2021 - No School (Memorial Day)
Tuesday, June 1, 2021 - No School - Give back snow day
Wednesday, June 2 - Board of Education Meeting - 7:00 pm - WGHS Library/Live Feed

In the Near Future:
Wednesday, June 23 and Thursday, June 24 (last 2 days of school) - half days for elementary students
Monday, June 28 -  Kindergarten Screening
Tuesday, June 29 -  Kindergarten Screening
Wednesday, June 30 - Kindergarten Screening

PTA:
The PTA will be hosting an outdoor book fair from 3:30-6:30 on June 16th and 17th.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the blue office (315)487-4633

See everyone Wednesday, June 2

Important Information:
Mask Use
You may have heard that the CDC now says it is safe for fully vaccinated people to take their masks off in most indoor settings. The agency was not specific about the wearing of masks in some settings, including schools.  Additionally, the CDC advice does not override mask orders issued by states, counties, or cities. Therefore, students and staff will continue with our mask expectations:
  • Wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth on the bus and in the school, other than during scheduled mask breaks and while seated eating breakfast and lunch. Please remind your children that masks need to cover their nose.
  • Mask breaks will be provided by teachers throughout the day during seated, independent work time.
  • If a student forgets a mask, the district has disposable masks to provide.
If anything changes at the school level regarding masks, we will certainly let you know! Thank you.

Positivity Project:  This is the final week in the 2020-2021 P2 Calendar. We are focusing on the Other People Mindset. This mindset consists of the five elements intended to help people understand ways to build positive relationships in their lives: identifying and appreciating the good in others, knowing my words and actions affect others, supporting others when they struggle, cheering others' successes, and being present and giving others my attention. For more on the Other People Mindset, click here.

Positivity Project: Humor
Humor is a sense of playfulness and lightness. It is a way of looking at and describing the world that brings laughter to people. A person with the strength of humor is skilled at seeing at the funny side of things, bringing smiles and laughter to others, and identifying and communicating the
absurdities in life. People with this strength don’t specifically need to be joke tellers, although many are. Humor can also have a dark side, depending on how it’s used. Some humor is mean spirited and bullying. The strength of humor that the character strength focuses on is that which raises the spirits of other people.
