Weekend Update February 28, 2020

Cafeteria News
The cafeteria will be going strawless. Great for the environment and certainly the right move. However, it might be a small issue for Kindergarten shirts everywhere. Prepare yourselves for some spilled milk down the front of li'l ones' shirts.

Special Education PTSA
The WG Special Education PTSA is offering a presentation about recognizing developmental delays and information about Early Intervention services for families of preschool aged children.  The event is free and open to the public on March 11 at the High School LGI.  Childcare will be provided.

I Wonder STEAM Showcase

The I Wonder STEAM Showcase will take place on Thursday March 5th. The schedule is as follows:

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Set up of the projects. After school please bring your project and set it up in your designated area. The tables will be labeled with the student's name upon arrival.

6:00 pm - 7:30 pm - Showcase

Takedown of projects at 7:30 pm or when you leave (if you have to leave).

Ball In The House

We had a PTA sponsored assembly today which was the acapella singing group Ball In The House from Boston, MA.  We learned about harmony, treble, base, and how working together as a team creates a beautiful sound.  We were very lucky to hear a performance from these very talented musicians.

Weekend Update February 14, 2020

ECOS Club Visit

Members of the high school ECOS club paid a visit to Mrs. Colburn's first grade class this week. The first graders were so excited to have guest presenters! They learned about animals and their habitats, and they were even able to dissect a flower. The students, both young and old, really enjoyed it!

P2 Assembly

This weeks P2 assembly focused on the character trait of perseverance.  We were so lucky to have the JazzKats from WGMS come across the parking lot to perform for us.  The JazzKats presented Mrs. McCarthy with a gift and even though she had a tough time opening the gift, she persevered and it turned out to be the gift of music.  Members of the JazzKats spoke about how playing an instrument isn't easy but you have to work hard, and not give up.  We are so lucky to have such musical talent here at West Genesee!

Sledding in PE

Thanks to the snowstorm last week, we were able to get outside and sled in PE this week.  The students had an absolute blast and getting some much needed fresh air was good for everyone!

PTA Update
The PTA is looking for volunteers to help with the Stonehedge yearbook.  By getting involved this year it is a great opportunity to shadow current volunteers and have knowledge going into next year. First Grade Spirit Day
Thursday was First Grade Spirit Day! All students were encouraged to wear their blue and gold but first graders got to enjoy a popcorn snack in the afternoon.  It's great to see such wildcat pride!
