Welcoming Our Newest Friends to Stonehedge
Next year's incoming kindergarten students and their parents joined all of our kindergarten teachers and teacher assistants, Mrs. Keevil, Mrs. Sheehan, and Mrs. Dunham for a fun and information-filled evening. Stonehedge's newest wildcats stayed in the classrooms with teachers and assistants while parents spoke with tour building principal, ADA-PEP counselor, and speech language provider. Welcome to our new friends.

Students Treated to a Concert
Our students were recently treated to a live stream concert by our grades 4/5 chorus, orchestra, and band. Many children were dancing in their seats as they watched the "big kids" play. In third grade students have the opportunity to participate in chorus, in grades four and five, they may select either a band or orchestra instrument.

Leapin' Lizards! Look at These Kids Jump!

Stonehedge Blue students were treated to a demonstration from the Jumprope Club. The club, composed of 5th grade volunteers, meet mornings before school for months before their performance. The younger students were blown away by the jumping tricks and talent! Special thanks to our physical education staff who dedicate hours to working with the fifth graders.

Enjoy this Memorial Day weekend. We are thankful to those who have served and continue to serve in our military.

A "Special" Spring Week

We were very proud to celebrate several of our students who participated in the Special Olympics held yesterday. Our dedicated special education teachers and teacher assistants as well as our Physical Education staff are to be commended for the hard work they put in to support this special day.

According to an article on the Special Olympics on syracuse.com, "A record number of Central New York students participated today in the annual Special Olympics Track & Field event at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Fina Santangelo, a North Syracuse school district physical education teacher who helps organize the event, said about 1,000 students participated this year, which made this the largest event to date.

As part of what's become an incredibly moving tradition, the staff and students of Stonehedge lined our sidewalk and hallways with handmade signs to welcome our athletes as they returned from their day of competing. The cheers and support rallied the competitors as they paraded through the school.

Open House Offered a Great Showcase of Student Work
Last night's open house was packed with families eager to celebrate student learning! Gorgeous student artwork decorated the entire building. Special thanks to our art teachers, Ms. Rugg and Mrs. Mosler-Vogler for their extra hard work displaying a piece of art from each the building's 750 students! Parents had an opportunity for an informal conversation with classroom teachers and to get a bird's eye view of students projects. Thank you to teachers and students for making this such a fun family event.

A Positively Fabulous Friday

We kicked off today with a great Positivity Project assembly. First grade students in Mrs. McCarthy and Miss Elmer's classes talked about ways to make sure #OtherPeopleMatter. Students in grades K-2 will each write a random act of kindness on a strip of paper, like "Pick up trash" or "If somebody feels invisible, invite them to play", and those strips of paper will be connected together to make a "kindness chain" around the school.

Students demonstrate how to pass each other in the hall and be friendly while remaining quiet.

Natalie shares her idea for a random act of kindness.

Spring Has Finally Sprung

It's been a wild week since we've returned from Spring Break. Snow on Monday and record highs Wednesday. Staff and students alike were thrilled with the change in the weather and took advantage of sunny skies and warm temperatures.

Second grade students found themselves outside digging up small grasses and weeds and studying plant roots. Coinciding with their unit of study, the adventure outside allowed book learning to turn into hands-on learning in a way these students won't soon forget!

Other teachers and students took advantage of the beautiful day with a well-deserved extended recess.
